Participants will learn about the challenges individuals with trauma history face when accessing healthcare and how to utilize a range of personal and organizational practices to implement trauma-informed healthcare services.

Meet Your Presenter

Moses is an occupational therapist who specializes in the treatment of mental health disorders and practices in Port Macquarie, Australia where he runs an occupational therapy practice called Providence Wellbeing (www.providencewellbeing.com.au). Moses developed a passion for occupational therapy (OT) early in life through his own experience of OT as a child and young person living with Cerebral Palsy. Moses has 15 years of clinical experience and has previously held academic appointments in the OT programs at The University Of Newcastle (2011-2015) and Charles Sturt University (2019-2021). Moses has a passion for working with people who have experienced trauma and works extensively with adults, children and young people experiencing severe mental health difficulties, neurodevelopmental disability, and complex trauma. Moses is also the developer of the Enactive Embodiment Model of Trauma-Informed OT practice, which is the first OT practice model to incorporate a focus upon supporting enhanced occupational participation in people who have experienced trauma.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  2. Describe the common challenges faced by people with a history of traumatic experiences in accessing healthcare services.
  3. Demonstrate commonly used strategies to embed a trauma-informed approach in both individual clinical practice/service provision and organisational culture.
