Sleep disturbance and pain have a bi-directional relationship: those in pain tend not to sleep as well and not sleeping well increases pain. This handout outlines how sleep can influence pain and outlines strategies that may improve sleep hygiene and thus reduce pain.

This handout provides tips for individuals to increase sleep participation through establishing better sleep hygiene and can be used to guide conversations about sleep between the OT and their client. This handout also provides a sleep diary that individuals can use to track their sleep habits.
