The Supraglottic Swallow
The use of swallowing maneuvers can allow a person with dysphagia to swallow more safely as they are voluntarily controlling the physiological event(s) of the pharyngeal stage of swallowing. The supraglottic swallow maneuver requires a person to voluntarily close his/her vocal folds to add an extra layer of protection from aspiration.
