Post Traumatic Amnesia
Post Traumatic Amnesia (PTA) is a partial or complete loss of memory following a traumatic event such as a brain injury. It is commonly seen when a person emerges from a coma or minimally conscious state. This handout helps explain what PTA is, describes characteristics of a person in a PTA state, length of PTA state with a correlation of severity of brain injury, and ways to help a person in a PTA state.
