Cooking can present significant risks and challenges as adults age. Using a microwave as a primary cooking source can be a safer, simpler alternative to stovetop cooking that may allow clients to age in place. This OT intervention includes the risks of stovetop cooking and many simple meal option “recipe cards” to make during a treatment session using only a microwave. Use to assess whether simplification of home cooking improves functional independence or if ongoing assistance will be required.
