Mentor: Mallory Miracle, MA, MS, CCC-SLP
Bio: I've been an SLP for almost 9 years. I worked exclusively with individuals with brain injury for about 5 years before working at skilled nursing/LTC facilities and a rehab hospital. I had a brief stint in early intervention, but found that working with adults was what suited me best. I currently work at a SNF/LTC facility. I'm a med school wife and mom of 3, dog mom of 1. I find empowering patients and their families to make informed decisions about their care to be one of the most rewarding and fulfilling parts of my job. It has taken me a while to find a healthy work/life balance, and am passionate about helping other clinicians do the same.
Current primary professional role: SLP.
Discipline: Medical SLP
State license: Kentucky: 138406
ASHA license: 14036891
Areas of Expertise: Cognitive-communication deficit, dysphagia, stroke, brain injury, dementia, VitalStim, counseling as appropriate.
Teaching philosophy: I would describe my approach as laid back and supportive. That being said, I can also provide a tough love approach if that is what works better for you. I will listen to what your needs are and do my best to accommodate those. I don't think that my place is to tell you what is best for you in your own practice, but to help you figure that out for yourself. I used to be a very Type A personality, but have been shifting to a more A/B hybrid. Work/life balance is very important, and I have coached friends/colleagues through finding a better balance for them. One of my favorite parts of the job is helping patients and their families make educated decisions about their care. There are other parts of the job that are less appealing, and I will be honest with you about what those are. I would love to be your mentor!
