Driving After a Brain Injury
The ability to drive significantly improves a person’s independence, life participation in activities of daily living, quality of life and satisfaction, and re-integration into the community. After having a brain injury, it is often recommended that a person refrains from driving. This handout provides education regarding the cognitive, emotional, perceptual, and physical skills needed to operate a motor vehicle and steps to assess readiness and safety for return to driving following brain injury.
