Bio: Hello! I have been a SLP for 7 years, working with both adults and pediatrics. I attended Marywood University in Scranton, PA. I have spent the majority of my career thus far working at a rural, critical access hospital in south central Pennsylvania. This means that I get to work across multiple service areas on a daily basis, i.e. acute care, sub-acute rehab, SNF, home health, and outpatient therapy for both adults and pediatrics. I love the variety and challenge that my current job offers, as well as the vast number of experiences I am offered across a range of ages and disorders. I am looking forward to providing mentorship and guidance to other SLPs that are just as passionate as I am.
Current primary professional role: I am a SLP working in a rural medical center with both pediatrics and adults.
Discipline: Medical SLP
State license: Pennsylvania: #SL012414
Areas of Expertise: Adults, pediatrics, LSVT Loud certified, Speak Out certified, Vital Stim certified, dysphagia, modified barium swallow studies, voice, cognitive-communication deficits, dementia, Positive Approach to Care trainer, head/neck cancer, goal writing for patient-centered outcomes.
Teaching philosophy: I believe that our jobs are more than endless piles of paperwork and data collection (though there is certainly plenty of that!). I think our role is making a positive change in the life of our patients and their loved ones. It is about making connections and working towards a better quality of life, however that may look for that specific individual. This means that we often need to be open-minded and creative in our thinking in order to provide the best possible support to a patient and/or their family. Education and counseling are a paramount part of this process, and it is something I feel strongly about. I think this same mindset can be applied to mentorship. I want to act as a guide in helping to develop your professional goals and then determining how I can best support you in achieving them. I want to act as a sounding board for your thoughts/concerns and provide feedback that would help point you in the right direction. I want my mentee to feel that our time together is more than just having someone to provide the “answers,” but a safe space to ask questions, develop critical thinking skills, and expand our knowledge together. If this is something you are looking for too, please reach out! I look forward to working with you!
