This course will allow rehabilitation professionals to design and conduct telehealth evaluations and treatments for the orthopedic and neurological patient populations. It will provide an evidence based approach for orthopedic and neurological patients.

Meet Your Presenter

Dr. Nupur Hajela, PT, DPT, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at California State University, Fresno, USA. She is the director of the gait balance and mobility clinic as well as the Director of Rehabilitation Technologies and Outcomes Research at the Central California Sports Sciences Institute. She conducts her translational neuroscience research on gait and balance in neurological patient populations such as Stroke and Parkinson's Disease. She is a licensed physical therapist in the states of California and Washington, USA and a neuroscientist by training. She is an emerging leader in the area of telerehabilitation and is an invited presenter at national and international conferences. Dr. Hajela believes in an interprofessional approach to treating patients and therefore is interested in internal and external collaboration for teaching, research, and service. Her research interests are in the areas of telehealth, remote monitoring, virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence for physical and cognitive therapy. Dr. Hajela serves as the founding board of directors for a nonprofit organization called InSPIRE SWADES that works to foster collaboration between India and the US in the field of rehabilitation research and service.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  2. Understand the technological considerations - Telehealth set-up for optimal patient experience.
  3. Clinically apply telehealth to treat orthopedic and neurological patients.
  4. Integrate virtual reality, augmented reality, remote patient monitoring, and artificial intelligence into telehealth.
  5. Understand optimal patient outcomes - what are the key factors for enhancing patient experience in a physical therapy session.
  6. Understand the role of the interprofessional rehabilitation team in telehealth.
