Meet Your Presenter

Adria Thompson is a speech language pathologist specializing in dementia care and the owner of Be Light Care Consulting. She has been an SLP for over 8 years in skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory care communities. She co-created a dementia training program with an occupational therapist training therapists across 13 states in evidence-based interventions, best practices for interprofessional collaboration, and utilizing person-centered treatments. Her passion is to empower and inspire other therapists in confidently and creatively providing effective dementia therapy in order to improve patient quality of life and decrease the burden on their caregivers. She creates daily social media content for over 220,000 professional and personal caregivers of individuals with dementia.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the role of an SLP in the context of activities of daily living (ADLs).
  2. List three cognitive-communication interventions SLPs can implement in the context of ADLs.
  3. Identify solutions to at least two barriers that SLPs face in providing therapy services during ADLs.
  4. Implement cognitive-communication terminology in goals and daily documentation.
