Meet Your Presenter

Karissa Simon is an OT based in New York, specializing in acute care, short term rehabilitation and outpatient. Johnny Rider writes our OT article snapshots and has practiced in a variety of settings including inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, acute care, home health and hospice, school-based, and primary care. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Touro University Nevada in the School of Occupational Therapy. Megan Wilkinson is a writer for Therapy Insights. Her primary area of expertise is in specialized post-acute neurorehabilitation, but she has also worked in inpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing facilities.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize compensatory strategies and adaptive equipment to use during grooming tasks.
  2. Summarize strategies for managing a wheelchair in the snow.
  3. Identify different adaptive equipment and modifications that can be made to a vehicle after injury or illness.
  4. List alternatives to shoes with laces to clients.
  5. Describe the physical and mental benefits of utilizing a standing frame and standing activities.
