Meet Your Presenter

Allison Stamm graduated in 2001 from New York University with a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. She began working with babies in a level 1 NICU in Queens, NY. When she moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2007, she went back for further training at Metro State in lactation counseling while working in outpatient pediatrics with 0-2 population for feeding and swallowing disorders. She currently works in an acute care hospital and sees babies in their level 2 NICU. She is also a private consultant for feeding evaluations and treatment in the home, with a specific focus on birth-12 months.

Course Details

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Chronologically order the phases of feeding and swallowing in the first year of life.
  2. Explain in utero swallowing, including basic anatomy and physiology.
  3. List the reflexes as they pertain to feeding.
  4. Describe feeding techniques for both breast and bottle feeders.
  5. Summarize the progression of solid foods and cup drinking.

Information is geared to practitioners with a general working knowledge of current practice trends and literature related to the subject matter. Focus is on increasing understanding and competent application of the subject matter.

Speech-language pathologists who address pediatric feeding disorders.
