This course will review multiple complex cases in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) setting, specifically the speech language pathologist’s role and special considerations of this particular treatment setting. Attention to critical thinking skills and working on a team in a high-stress environment will be explored.

Meet Your Presenter

Heidi is an experienced pediatric speech-language pathologist who has worked in a variety of settings including schools, outpatient clinics, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and pediatric inpatient units. She is passionate about learning more, sharing knowledge, and having thoughtful conversations with colleagues regarding complex cases. She is currently a content writer for Therapy Insights and an inpatient pediatric speech-language pathologist at University of Virginia Children's Hospital.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  2. List the steps of treating multiple complex cases.
  3. Describe ways to build stronger interdisciplinary teamwork in PICU.

Information is geared to practitioners with a general working knowledge of current practice trends and literature related to the subject matter. Focus is on increasing understanding and competent application of the subject matter.

Speech-language pathologists who work with children.
