This course will provide information on the role of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team in addressing return to work goals for individuals who have sustained traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury. Practical intervention strategies, job accommodations, and case examples will be discussed using Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Work Re-entry Program as a model.

Meet Your Presenter

Amanda graduated with a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy degree from Creighton University in May 2021. Prior to graduation, she completed her Doctoral Capstone Experience at Madonna focused on program development and clinical experience with individuals with neurologic injuries and return to work goals. After graduation, Amanda completed a year-long AOTA approved Occupational Therapy Neurology Fellowship with a focus on mentorship in the areas of clinical practice, academia, and research. Following graduation from the fellowship, Amanda returned to Madonna and now serves as an occupational therapist in the outpatient setting. Virginia Schweitzer COTA/L is a skilled therapist with simulated work activities and has been trained in Work Re-entry. She has served as Work Re-entry Program Leader at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals and has previously presented in the area of workforce re-entry.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify barriers to return to work goals for individuals who have sustained traumatic brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury and the benefits of addressing these goals in the rehabilitation setting.
  2. Define the role of the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team in addressing return to work goals for these individuals.
  3. Describe intervention strategies, accommodations, and case examples for return to work within the rehabilitation setting, using Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals’ Work Re-entry Program as a model.
