Description: A lot changes in the first year of life, particularly when it comes to feeding and swallowing! This course will dive into the progression of the different phases of feeding and swallowing from birth to 12 months. The course will also discuss in utero swallowing, including basic anatomy and physiology. The course will cover the reflexes involved in feeding/swallowing within the first year of life, covering techniques for both breast and bottle feeders, and will explore the progression of transitioning from purees to solids and from breast/bottle to cup drinking.

Presented by Allison Stamm, MA, CCC-SLP

Allison Stamm graduated in 2001 from New York University with a Master's Degree in Speech Pathology. She began working with babies in a level 1 NICU in Queens, NY. When she moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2007, she went back for further training at Metro State in lactation counseling while working in outpatient pediatrics with 0-2 population for feeding and swallowing disorders. She currently works in an acute care hospital and sees babies in their level 2 NICU. She is also a private consultant for feeding evaluations and treatment in the home, with a specific focus on birth-12 months.

Key learning outcomes:

As a result of this activity, the participant will be able to

  1. Chronologically order the phases of feeding and swallowing in the first year of life.
  2. Explain in utero swallowing, including basic anatomy and physiology.
  3. List the reflexes as they pertain to feeding.
  4. Describe feeding techniques for both breast and bottle feeders.
  5. Summarize the progression of solid foods and cup drinking.

For Access Pass subscribers: In the event that a course is canceled or rescheduled, no cash refund will be provided to subscribers of the Access Pass. Therapy Insights will work to reschedule the event, or create a new event within the same month. Therapy Insights guarantees access to one live course per month to all subscribers. In the highly unlikely event that this commitment is not met, subscribers will receive a 50% refund for that month’s subscription cost. Subscribers who are on an annual payment plan will receive a pro-rated refund for 50% of the cost of that month.

All refunds will be provided within 30 days of time of cancellation.

In the event that a participant/subscriber registers for the live course and then cancels participation, no refund will be provided. The participant will have the opportunity to access the recorded presentation at no additional cost as part of their subscription or registration fee.
