Course Webinar: A Call into the Wild: How Therapy Can and Should Move Outdoors

Course description: This course will make the case for implementing traditional evidence-based language therapies within the context of nature. Reviewing his own experience developing nature-based intervention and translating nature-based pedagogy into speech-language pathology, the presenter provides recommendations for clinicians and researchers for bringing children and families we serve outdoors.

Presented by Daniel Flatt, M.S., CCC-SLP

Date: Saturday, July 24th, 2021
Time: 8 am pacific | 9 am mountain | 10 am central | 11 am eastern

A former journalist with experience writing in the Rockies, Daniel grew up on a farm with a mother who was a state park naturalist and a father who taught him to identify leaves before letters. He is currently an SLP at Dynamic Therapy Center, a multidisciplinary pediatric clinic in Nashville, Tennessee. The clinic’s ample green space has pushed him to move therapy outdoors and ultimately to develop a weekly, nature-immersive camp for children with developmental disabilities at the clinic called Natural Connections. Given the growth of forest and nature schools, he hopes his ideas motivate therapists and researchers to increase outdoor therapy opportunities for children we serve.
